Shanzu Probation Centre Opened: Chief Justice C. Miller inaugurated the Shanzu Boys Probation Centre in Mombasa, marking it as Kenya’s first of its kind. Miller emphasized the government’s commitment to youth correction and called for more centers like this to address societal challenges. Mombasa Mayor Opens Whitesands Hotel Expansion: Mombasa Mayor Councillor Ahmed Mwidani opened the newly expanded Whitesands Hotel, a project costing KSh. 150 million. The history of the hotel dates back to 1941, and it has since become one of the most prominent hotels on Bamburi Beach. The mayor praised the hotel’s role in promoting tourism, which remains a vital contributor to the economy, particularly in the Coast region. Malindi Mourns Shariff Badawy: The respected Islamic scholar, Shariff Bin Badawy, passed away and was laid to rest at Malindi Cemetery. He had written numerous books on Islamic culture and philosophy, and established Islamic Madrasas along the Kenyan coast, particularly in Lamu Island. Notable figures, including Malindi Deputy Mayor and KANU Chairman Japhet Lagance, attended his funeral.
