dc.description.abstract Inside this Issue: Elephant invasion: The elephants came in two… in fact the whole extended family and other relatives to have taken up residence at the Taita Hills famous Salt LickLodge near Kenya’s Tsavo West National Park. Dunford is the champ: The day may go down on record as the most memorable day in squash in Mombasa and Coast Province. Errol food: Preparing a right Royal Sauce Duxelles: Duxelles sauce may deep freeze perfectly well so that it is useful to make up in good quantities for convenience. A few spoonsful may be added to all those recipes which require the sweating of mushrooms and onions as a base. Lost town of ungama: The northern coast of Kenya-that is, the stretch from about Malindi up to the Kenya-Somali border -has rather more than its fair share of historical myths and mysteries; and – as Edward Rodwell, the father of all coastal myth and mystery, recorders once wrote -it may be a pity if they are ever all sorted out and reduced to the dreary level of established, history text-books facts. Old coast hand visits kilifi; Discovered relaxing at Mnarani Hotel Kilifi and enjoying a fishing scene on the coast again, was Mrs. Ament -formerly Ann Stawney. New butchery for Mombasa: Just opened is Mombasa and modern butchery-the Afro Meat Company limited in Nkrumah Road. Re-opening the border: Kenyan Foreign Minister Dr. Munyua Waiyaki went on record this week as saying that the re-opening of the Tanzania border with Kenya was likely ‘soon’. Money with garry Bradley: Buying and selling shares can be a risky business. Last week I suggested that investing in shares is one method of beating inflation, but unless care is taken an investor may find the value of his capital falling rather than increasing. Dar cracks down on all luxury imports: The Mozambique-Tanzania Unity Bridge Task Force is scheduled to meet later this month in Dar es Salaam to prepare final recommendations on the design of the bridge for approval by the two countries’ joint commission for corporation. Huge five-year investment plan for Kenya: Under the Lome Convention Shs. 720 million was set aside for Kenya alone by the European Economic Fund to be committed or possibly spent during a five -year period ending early next year. Cement fleet parade: The major proportion of the bulk cement fleet could be seen in Kilindini over last week-end, infact they were so positioned to suggest review formation. Beauty and brilliance: Coast girls at the University of Nairobi performed exceptionally well in their examinations and quite a few of them graduated with flying colors. Fascinating newbook explores Zanzibar history: A book on Zanzibar has just been published which may be of considerable interest to readers of COASTWEEK. DEUTSCHE GELEHRTE FOERDERTEN DIE KISUAHELISPRACHE Die kenianische Kueste ist fuer viele Deutsche ein beliebtes Urlaubs ziel geworden. Walleu brown: The White Horse Fishing Competition held over the last weekend at Bahari Club resulted in three Marlin, one Sailfish and three Shark being weighed in by the 26 competing boats over the two days. Malindi soccer: Airmen Football Club is the 1978 champions of Malindi after defeating Midzikenda Football Club in the final which was played on 17.2.79.
