In this issue: Cargo ships arrest:  Six foreign ships are under arrest at the port of Kilindini in a series of civil suits involving several million dollars; Protests traff increases: The Mombasa and coast tourist association is sending a letter to the Public Law Institute, Nairobi to protest about proposed increases in electricity tariffs by nine to 15 per cent for all categories of consumers; Mombasa student to lead new York group: Jamal Slim, 26, of Mombasa has been elected president of the international students’ council of Baruch college University of New York ; Bringing Gods love to sea farers world-wide: (Like those in Toronto and Sarnia around the Great Lakes) depending on the movements of the ships, and re-locatable clubs which can be shifted from one port to another; Tourism minister leads kenya team on Japanese visit: The most welcome news of the week is about three-man Ministry of Tourism delegating having left for Japan so that a special tourist office can be established in Tokyo to look after Kenya tourism promotion activities in Japan; Licence protest: The chamber of commerce (Kwale branch) has noted with great concern the proposed increase in license fees for various traders in Kwale district; Continuing saga of distressed ships under arrest in kilindini: Another vessel was arrested in Kilindini over last weekend bringing the total number in port to six; Waliokosa shule wafanyeje: kama ilivyo kawaida kwa kipindi hiki cha mwezi wa kwanza januari ya kila mwaka kwa wazazi kadhaa ambao Watoto wao wamekosa nafasi ya kuingia darasa la kwanza Kwenda mbio kwa kuwatafutia nafasi yoyote ambayo wanaweza kuipata ili wasikose elimu.; Coast international tennis: The Kenya Tennis Safari circuit swings into Mombasa on Tuesday January 31 for the annual coast international tournament.

In this issue: Airlines to resume flight to Tanzania: The National Carrier Kenya Airways is expected to resume flights to Tanzania on February 3, ten weeks after the signing of the Arusha accord and the opening of the Kenya -Tanzanian boarder; Tour group discuss new licence law:  A meeting of tour Mombasa; Hundreds mourn tuva at malindi funeral: Malindi (KNA) Hundreds of people joined the operator called by the Mombasa and Coast Tourist Association at Oceanic Hotel sought detailed information about the new classification of ‘Drivers/Guides’ and Tour Leaders’ who are now required to be registered by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife ; Tea price hit new peaks in Mombasa: Prices for Kenyan tea soared up again on Monday, fetching Shs.59/60 per kg in another peak-price record, tea brokers said in bereaved family and relatives of the late Joseph Masumbuo Tuva who was given a military burial at the Malindi Catholic Cemetery; Night transport is very necessary: Although public are enjoying service of Kenya Bus Limited during the day time employees who work during late hours in Mombasa Town are not enjoying the services of Kenya bus; ‘Dismayed with this report…’I refer to the recent article on Cricket by Mr. G.S. Grewal in a Nairobi Newspaper. My committee was dismayed to note their reporter’s comments regarding Mombasa Sports Club; Warm welcome for ‘ubena’: Sunday daybreak may witness the arrival in Mombasa of the newest and largest cellular container ship yet seen in Kilindini or indeed on the East African Coast; ‘Them mushrooms’ At diani: Now playing at Two Fishes Hotel Diani, on Thursday and Sunday, is one of the top Coast’s bands the Mushrooms which continued to compose many of their own songs, the latest being a single entitled ‘Twenty Great Years’ .

Inside this issue: Record prices on tea: Prices for Kenyan tea have sowed up to new heights in this week’s Mombasa Tea Auctions, fetching Shs. 53/90 per kilo in a new eighty-year record peak price; Tanzanians beginning to cross border:Several hundred Tanzanians visited Mombasa and the coast for Christmas, new year and Maulidi celebrations, following the successful re-opening of the Tanzania-Kenya boarder six weeks ago; President Moi visit kilifi: Kilifi (KNA) An assistant minister for culture and social services Mr. Noah Katana Ngala has confirmed that president Daniel Arap Moi has accepted the visit of women groups from Kilifi to his Kabarak home on 10 January; New babies at coast: Major hospitals in the coast province registered a total of seven births for the new year; Main enemy ok kenya;  I wish to congratulate series of six radio programs in the Ulimwengu wa vitabu in the National Service of the Voice of Kenya which discussed the evils of tribalism and as the arch-enemy of progress in this nation; Clean up rubbish: I write on behalf of the residents of Wachangamwe Streets (Old Town), regarding the stench and filth left decaying and uncollected in the gutters and septic tanks on the door steps of our residences; Third manta line ship arrested in Mombasa: The third Manta line vessel to be arrested entered port over the Christmas weekend; Risala za mwaka mpya: Mkuu wa mkoa wa wilaya ya pwani Bwana D.
