The continuing and often vexing problems experienced by both travelers and airlines using the new Mombasa International Airport were given a thorough airing during a most useful meeting hosted in Mombasa and attended by coast provincial commissioner Eliud Mahihu, airport officials, airline staff and representatives of the local tourist trade.&#13;

In view of the increasing interest in East Africa by people wishing to visit Cameroon and Nigeria intending visitors are advised by Cameroon Airlines the national carrier of Cameroon that currently there are no visa formalities for short visits to Cameroon.&#13;

After the successful completion of the second ‘Operation Helicopter’ mission last Saturday morning when a sick officer was taken off the Spanish super tanker Alcazar of 150,700 d.w. tons, I feel I must also voice my praise in favor of this means of transportation at last having been introduced into the Mombasa maritime scene.&#13;

Nyota football club is one of the oldest football clubs in Mombasa. It started as Young Stars in Magongo in 1949.&#13;

The sizable crowd at last week’s game were treated to some entertaining soccer at the sports club’s ground but unfortunately for M.S.C. supporters (all three of them) they, for once, had to be content with less than best from M.S.C.&#13;

The Kenya National Football Champions, Kenya Breweries were in Mombasa for five days to prepare their team for the East and Central African Club Cup Championship which is scheduled to be played in Mogadishu later this month.&#13;

The Coast Kenya Football League second division title contenders, the unbeaten Black Panther F.C. clash at the Mombasa municipal stadium on Sunday (January 28) in a vital encounter that might decide this season’s championship&#13;

The organizers of the International Invitation Tennis Tournament, to be held at Mombasa Sports Club from February 5-11, have revealed that prize money for the event may total 20,000/-.&#13;

North Atlantic Disaster:&#13;
My notes two weeks ago on the tragic loss of the 45,000 d.w. ton ‘LASH’ barge carrier Muchen during a severe gale during the North Atlantic can be further strengthened by London Insurance Interest stating that this could prove to be one of the largest single marine losses of all time amounting to between £34- and £39 million-pounds sterling.&#13;

Literally thousands of copper rivets go into the building of the Mombasa one-design coot and practically all of that number have had to be used in the pain-taking exercise that Edwin Tucker has just completed of refurnishing one of these older boats.&#13;
